Since Maldives hotels are located on each different island and transport between two different islands are impossible. Therefore you will be stay in the resort area for your whole holiday. So finding best accommodation for your holiday is one of the difficult tasks need to do for most Maldives travelers. However, there are over 250 hotels and resorts in Maldives. So let me share some tips on how to find a suitable hote/resort for you.
First of all, know what you need.
– Luxury or budget
– Half-Board, full Board or all-inclusive
– Seaplane or speedboat
– Beach Villa or Water villa
– With Kids or not with Kids
Luxury or Budget
The price of accommodation in Maldives can be a very wide range. You can stay in a USD80 three star hotel or USD8,000 water villa resort per nights. If you don’t know the usual accommodation rate on Maldives, you can visit Agoda’s page (http://www.agoda.com/city/maldives-islands-mv.html) to check. Go and get an ideas what is the normal room rate per night after you input your travel period. Maldives travel doesn’t need to be expensive. There are many ways you can travel to Maldives on a budget. (I will discuss more how to travel on budget in the coming chapter).
Half-board, full board or all-inclusive
Since one island has only one resort, this means that the facilities on the resort you choose (restaurants, bars, sports facilities, entertainment etc) are the only ones you will have access to during your stay. So some resorts actually offer “half-board”, which means include breakfast and dinner. Full board means include breakfast, lunch and dinner. And all-inclusive means it includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, free alcohol drinks and some activities. If your resort offer “all-inclusive” rate plan, pay attention to the things that includes during your stay. Some resorts “all-inclusive” plan like Lily Beach Resort do offer free alcohol drinks and some activities for free too.
For example when you are making reservation in agoda, the rate title will indicate whether this rate is half-board, full board or all-inclusive.(See below screenshot).
If you looking for cheapest resorts which offer all-inclusive plan, take a look of Kuredu Island Resort and Spa (http://www.agoda.com/zh-hk/kuredu-island-resort-and-spa/hotel/maldives-islands-mv.html). They provide unlimited alcoholic drink, sunset cruise, snorkeling lesson and windsurfing lesson for free if you booked their all-inclusive rate.
Seaplane or speedboat
If you only have a few days in the Maldives, you may also want to look at a resort that is located closer to Male airport, as you won’t waste as much time dealing with transport. As I mentioned in Maldive tips -1, if your plane arrive to Male after 4pm. You will not able to take seaplane. The only solution you can go to your resort after 4pm is by choose resorts close to Male which you can take speedboat to the resort. * If you want to know what resorts are transfer by speedboat, you can read more in this post xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxs
Beach Villa or Water villa
Rate for water villa can be much higher than a beach villa. Also, not all resorts they have water villa. The cost of staying in the same hotel but in a different villa can be much different too. I don’t have any preference for you because it is really up to you. However, sometimes I suggest to my friends that you can choose to stay 2 nights in beach villa and 2 nights in water villa to experience the different and also help you save some money too.
With Kids or not with Kids
Are you travel with kids under 8 or 12? Some resorts does not allow kids because they don’t want kid’s noise spoil others holiday. In additions, not all resorts allow kids to stay in water villa seems it can be danger. If you looking for stay in water villa with kids, take a look of below resorts that allow kids to stay in water villa.
