Many of my friends when they choosing resorts in Maldives, they often ignore the distance between the resort and Maldives International Airport. However, choose a resort close to International Airport and can help save a lot of time in transportation and furthermore you can enjoy your holiday sooner. Most important, the longer distance it is , you more you pay for your transportation (seaplane or speedboat) fee.

 

Before I start telling you which resorts are close to Maldives International Airport. Just give you few resort names which are farthest from the airport and probably I don’t recommend for short terms travelers (stay 3 days or less).

 

Hotels which far far away for Maldives International Airport  

(Need to take at least 1.5 hour domestic flight then change speedboat to the resort)

1. Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa

2. Ayada Maldives

3. Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa

But don’t get me wrong that I don’t recommend travelers to stay in above resorts. I just want to tell you that these resorts take more time to arrive. But if you really like these resorts, just expect you may need to spend more time on transport.

 

 

Resorts which close to Maldives International Airport

Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa only takes 20 minutes by speedboat from International Airport. And the transport fee is only USD 136 per adult(round trip).

 

Luckily, Sheraton resorts is close(but not too close) and you don’t need to worry of hearing any noise when aeroplane is taking of or landing. Sheraton has water villa, beach villa, Island Cottage and Water Bungalow for you to choose.

The next 2 resorts I recommend are Paradise Island Resort & Spa and Gili Lankanfushi. These two resorts located right next to each other and they are close to a famous diving location(Manta Point Dive site) Gili Lankanfushi also ranked in top 3 resorts in Tripadvisor Maldives resort list. I don’t give my personal comment here, I suggest you can go to Tripadvisor to view the comment of this resort. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g4522345-d301969-Reviews. It takes around 40 minutes by speedboat to both resorts.

If you are looking for more luxury resort, you can take a look of below recommendations. It takes around 30 to 40 minutes by speedboat.

Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru Resort – Speedboat transfer per adult is USD 145 (round-trip). This resort is build in 1993 but has renovated in 2013.

All-Inclusive 

For those looking for all-inclusive resorts, you can consider Kurumba Maldives Resort. Kurumba Maldives Resort ranked the highest in Tripadvisor of all-inclusive Maldives resorts.  The speedboat transfer fee per adult is USD 80.08 (roundtrip) and USD 40.04 (roundtrip) for children from 2 to 11 years old. I highly recommend this resorts for luxury travel on a budget. The all-inclusive rate is only available to book on their official website. Or you can book all-meals from Agoda first, after you arrive the resort, you can change to all-inclusive plan if you need.

 

Kurumba Maldives only has beach villa and no water villa. However, they have Presidential Pool Villa, Deluxe Pool Villa and Garden Pool Villa which are good for honeymoon.

Adaaran Prestige Vadoo Resort

Speedboat transfer per adult is USD 120 (roundtrip) and USD 60 (roundtrip) for children from 2 to 11 years old. The have a Japanese style overwater villa which is quite special in Maldives.

Eriyadu Island Resort

While Adaaran Prestige Vadoo Resort located in the south side of Maldives airport, Eriyadu Island Resort is located in the north side of the airport. Floatplane transfer per adult is USD 350 (roundtrip). Eriyadu Island Resort does not have water villa. This resort is actually good for non-luxury travelers to visit Maldives to enjoy the Sun and Sea.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers for Maldives booking and transfer info

Why do I need my flight details in order to make a booking?

Arrival/departure date and time are required to ensure proper scheduling of transfers to and from the resort, for all guests.

 

What if I do not have my flight details yet?

If you don’t have your flight details at the time of the booking, please contact your hotel no later than 3 days prior to your arrival in order to ensure transfers to and from the hotel are properly arranged.

As the Maldives is an island nation, seaplanes and speed boats serve as taxi to your destination. Without this service, getting to your hotel is not possible.

Please note: these island transfers are coordinated by your hotel. All costs associated with this transfer service will be payable to the hotel at either check-in or check-out.

 

What if my travel companion and I arrive on separate flights?

You may need to inform the hotel directly and they will arrange the pick up service for you.

 

Will someone meet me at the airport?

Most hotels will provide representatives, to greet you at the airport arrival hall. If this is not the case, please approach the hotel contact counter in the airport arrival hall.

 

How far is the airport arrival hall from the transfer departure points?

It is approximately 50m walking distance from the airport arrival hall. The ferry pier for speed boat transfers is just outside the arrival hall.

Check-in for Seaplane transfers is located at the arrival hall. A shuttle bus will bring you to the Seaplane terminal. Travel time is approximately 10-15 minutes.

 

 

What is the schedule for island transfers and the luggage policy?

Speed boat transfers operate 24 hours per day. These transfers will be arranged by the hotel based on your arrival/departure time.

Seaplanes operate from 6:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., 7 days per week. However, schedules vary depending on the arrival and departure times of all guests on that given day. You must arrive into Male before 3:30 p.m. in order to catch a same day Seaplane transfer. Seaplane Carriers are independent operators which provide the resort with schedules in the evening prior to arrival and departures. As such, all schedule timing are solely at the discretion of the seaplane management. Each passenger may carry 20kg of checked luggage and 5kg of hand luggage. Any excess thereof is subject to the additional fees to be paid direct to the seaplane operator. The Carrier does not guarantee to transport baggage on the same flight as the passengers and reserves the right to refuse carriage of out-sized items as well as restricted articles and dangerous goods.

 

What if my flight arrives into Male after 3:30 p.m.?

If you are booked on a Seaplane transfer, you will be required to stay overnight in Male. We recommend booking a hotel within close proximity to the airport. You can take a look of the Male hotels here in Agoda.

 

How do I get from Male Airport to my stopover/ layover hotel in Male city?

If the city hotel you book does not include airport transfers, there is a ferry located at the pier just outside the arrival hall. The trip costs USD 1.00 and takes approximately 15 minutes. Taxis are available once you arrive but most hotels are within walking distance from the arrival point. Alternatively, if the hotel provides transfers, their representative will meet you at the airport.

 

How do I arrange my return transfers back to Male Airport?

All resort transfers are roundtrip. Please ensure that both arrival and departure flight details are noted on your booking to ensure that your hotel arranges your transfers accordingly.

 

What if I miss my transfer?

In the arrival hall of Male Airport, you may proceed to the contact counter of your hotel for further assistance.

 

What is Full Board/Half Board?

These terms refer to your meal plan. “Full Board” refers to breakfast, lunch and dinner. “Half Board” refers to breakfast and dinner, only. The hotel will specify as to whether drinks are included. Most meals are in buffet style.

 

What is Bed Tax?

Bed Tax is a mandatory country tax. All hotels charge USD 8.00 per person, per night, regardless of age. Please note that most hotels already include bed tax in their room rates. However, some hotels prefer to collect the bed tax separately. If you have booked one of these hotels, you will see the additional bed tax listed in your total booking costs. Bed tax is for all nights stayed in the hotel, regardless of promotional details.
